Regular Quarterly Issues
The National Journal of Health Sciences (NJHS) follows a quarterly publication schedule, with four regular issues published each calendar year. The four regular issues constitute one annual volume.
- Issue 1: January–March
- Issue 2: April–June
- Issue 3: July–September
- Issue 4: October–December
Each calendar year constitutes one volume.
Online Publication
NJHS publishes accepted articles as part of the relevant finalized issue. Articles are not published individually immediately upon acceptance. Following completion of the editorial, peer-review, production, and proofing processes, an accepted article is scheduled for publication in an appropriate regular, Special, Thematic, or Supplementary Issue, as applicable.
The final publication date is the date on which the article is formally published as part of its designated issue.
Volume and Pagination
Each calendar year constitutes one volume. The four regular quarterly issues use continuous pagination throughout the annual volume, with each regular issue continuing the page sequence from the preceding regular issue.
Supplements, Special and Thematic Issues
In addition to its four regular quarterly issues, NJHS may publish Supplementary, Special, or Thematic Issues when there is a defined scholarly or editorial rationale and the proposed issue satisfies the journal’s editorial and publication requirements.
Such issues:
- are clearly identified by an appropriate issue designation, such as S1, where applicable;
• are published in addition to, and do not replace, any of the four regular quarterly issues;
• remain clearly distinguishable from the regular quarterly issues in the journal’s archive and bibliographic records;
• may contain a defined collection of articles addressing a particular theme, subject area, meeting, project, or other approved scholarly purpose; and
• use separate pagination from the continuous pagination of the regular quarterly issues, where applicable.
The editorial requirements, eligibility, proposal and approval process, responsibilities, peer-review requirements, and publication standards for Supplements, Special Issues, and Thematic Issues are governed by the journal’s Policy on Supplements, Thematic Issues and Special Issues..
Issue Designation and Bibliographic Records
NJHS maintains separate bibliographic records for regular and supplementary/special/thematic issues. Issue designations, volume numbers, publication dates, article pagination, DOI information, and archive records are maintained consistently across the journal website and the published articles.
Supplementary or Special Issues are identified separately from the regular quarterly sequence to ensure that they do not create ambiguity regarding the journal’s four-issue-per-year regular publication schedule.
Changes to Publication Frequency or Publication Model
Any permanent change to the journal’s regular publication frequency or publication model requires formal approval by the editorial leadership. An approved change will be publicly announced on the NJHS website before implementation. Following such a change, the Publication Cycle, Bibliographic Information, Archive, issue records, and relevant journal metadata will be updated consistently to reflect the new publication model.
